Course Summary

A BEng in Aero-Mechanical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde is very much sought after, as it is one of the top ten such programs in the UK. It is fully accredited by the Engineering Council via the IMechE, and meets the academic requirements for registering as an Incorporated Engineer completely. It also places you well on your way to Chartered Engineer status.

This degree will teach you how to design various aircraft systems, including its flight and control systems, its landing gear, its engines and its critical human interfaces. However, it also equips you with the advanced theoretical knowledge and mathematical skills you need to do so in a scientific, professional manner.

It is worth noting that it is typically possible to transfer from this 4 year BEng program to a 5 year MEng program, and many students do exactly that every year.

Learning And Teaching

Strathclyde’s Aero-Mechanical Engineering program uses interactive teaching, problem-based learning and problem solving almost exclusively at the early stages. The latter half of the program relies much more heavily on computer based interactive learning sessions, practical work, tutorials and large lecture classes. Students will also deliver several group and individual projects throughout all 4 years

Career Possibilities

Graduates of this program are not limited to seeking roles in the aero-space industry by any means! You’ll learn a wide range of transferrable skills, and graduates regularly take roles in the Energy, environmental engineering, consulting, manufacturing or automotive industries as well. Many others put their engineering know-how to work in the armed forces.

Entry Requirements

for UK and EU-nationals:

This BEng program typically requires applicants to have achieved 3 A Levels at BBB or higher, Scottish Highers at AAAB, or one of a number of equivalent academic certifications. In all cases, Maths and Physics As are preferred.

for overseas (non-EU) students:

International students must be fluent in written and spoken English. This can be demonstrated by a good IELTS score, or good performance on one of a wide range of equivalent tests.

International students must also have earned a degree that is the equivalent of that required for UK and EU students. The requirements can be found here.
